From the series: Carnival na Lona no Brasil, (Carnival on Canvas in Brazil)
This image is from "Carnival on Canvas" an ongoing photographic essay, begun in 1987, which records three diverse elements of Rio de Janeiro's street carnival. The photographer employs a weathered canvas to create an instant studio backdrop. This image reflects the political elements which are characteristic of the downtown carnival.
